1. Badholia Temple Waterfall Only one km away from Writers Hill is the waterfall with a temple below
it. In the monsoon, the waterfall is a sight with tones of water crashing
down. It slows down considerably during the winters and summers. If you go
inside the temple and ring the bell, don’t be surprised if within minutes
an army of monkeys clamber out of the rocks and wait for Prasad. The
temple gets its fair share of devotees who also bring something for the
monkeys. 2. The Jalal River Bed If you drive another 4-5 kms from the waterfall, towards the town of
Dadahu, cross the bridge, a path goes down to the river bed which is
strewn with big and small rocks. In and around the rocks, flows the Jalal
river. In the winters, the river is around 2-3 feet in depth and remains
like that through the summer months. But its size increases during the
monsoon. The river stretches to almost 20-30 feet and rises to 8-10 feet.
During winters, it’s a perfect place to have lunch. Sitting on chairs on
the river bed with the water flowing just a hand-shake away; Hot food laid
on a table, it’s a moment that would be remembered by all.
3. Renuka Lake
It’s one of the most religious places in Himachal Pradesh. Apart from the
temples, the lake is the biggest attraction. Packed with fish that swim to
the shores to eat wheat dough thrown in by the visitors, the lake is also
a wonderful place to do some boating. Pick up a boat and pedal away a
couple of hours, relaxed by the greenery around.
4.
Renuka Zoo Built around the lake, the best way to explore the zoo/national park is to
take a three km walk. You will walk with the lake on one side and the
animals on the other. Different kinds of deers, bears, leopards and the
big attraction lions and lionesses. The lions are getting on in age but
they are quite a sight. If you are looking to shed some weight, this walk
will do you good.
